When I told a close friend that I used to cut myself, all he said was, “I didn’t know. I’m so sorry.” When I told him I suffered from Seasonal Affective Disorder and apologized for how I might act in the winter months, he shared that he was the only one in his immediate family who hadn’t suffered from depression and told me not to worry. When I told him about my abusive ex, he couldn’t say anything. When I asked him on a date, he said yes. It can get better, but you’re not failing if it doesn’t.
